Countdown till babies!!!

Greta, what a sport! I will give her massive attention tonight, no work tomorrow....Tiny has shows, but I'll just be gone each morning. Very exciting. Got some goats milk for replacement milk just in case (and Greta can drink it, it won't go to waste) - saying that, it might be gone by then. Mark tried it and likes it and is drinking it! He likes it. Knucklehead. I think we are ready except that we need to go get more goat's milk!

She is uncomfortable, starving, has to urinate a lot, and looks at me pleadingly to please let this be over.... I'll take another picture this weekend and see if she looks different. I will begin taking her temperature this weekend too.

Her first litter was born on Labor day :), she tells me this one could happen on Mother's Day.

Lots of movement in there

I think they are playing soccer or practicing up for hunting season because they are moving around a lot....poor Gret's. One little guy is going to be a crazy man! He's on her right side just after the rib cage. He's always moving and kicking! (they stay in the same spot, if you didn't know - they are in what's called 'horns' - The uterus of the dog is Y-shaped, with the arms of the "Y" being longer than the stem. The long arms of the uterus are called the horns, and the short stem is called the body. The uterine horns extend from each ovary and join to form the body of the uterus. When the female is pregnant, the fetuses are arranged in a row in both horns.)

poor dear

My poor dear sweet Greta is getting uncomfortable. She doesn't stay in one spot too long, resituates herself, has to 'go out' more often and is just ready to be done with this stage of this, I think.

I gave her a gentle cleaning of her belly and "nozzles" yesterday. She liked it. Mark also rubbed her belly with some plain (not medicated or perfumed) lotion. She also seemed to enjoy that.

While cleaning I noticed that she has milk and now I know why Tiny is so interested in Greta's underside... :) None for you, Tiny - you had your share - this milk supply is for your half brothers and sisters!

I definitely felt movement last night!! She's getting noticeably bigger and I will try to take a picture and monitor what she looks like every few days now....end of the week, I'll start taking her temperature...won't be long now!

Anyone have any puppy name ideas? I usually name them based on recognizable characteristics, but I'm open.....

nice little visit

Future puppy owners came to see Greta and the other girls. Nice family! This puppy will get lots of playing time with these two little girls - that's for sure! Tiny and Greta were tired when they left.

I think I felt some blips and slight movement last night. Greta doesn't want to sit still to let me check. When we go to bed, she is motionless and that's the best time.....I layed my hand on her belly and waited........I felt something and it was either a puppy or a gas bubble - lol.

The one I felt, just felt like it was cute. I can tell these things...it comes with being crazy - haha. We have just over 2 weeks now and I can not wait! Good thing I'm so busy or I would be pulling my hair out.

Just making sure I have everything ready and next week I'll start taking her temperature morning and evening. When her temperature drops, pups should come within 24 hours.

I love Brittanys....now I have to figure out how to set up a webcam for all of you..............

winding down for motherhood

Well Gret's went to her last agililty class till after the pups. Don't want to jostle those babies around too much. I think I should be able to feel them soon, so I'm going to go try right now!.....I'll let you know...

ok, so this isn't about the litter but Greta's daughter from her last litter came home from dog shows in Georgia and she got reserve winners and then Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for 4 points at the Georgia Brittany club specialty show!!

Then she proceeded to take over the whelp box...maybe she remembers she was born there. :)

I hope to set up a webcam or a link to one so babies can be watched. They are precious and mesmorizing even when their eyes and ears are still closed.

today's task

Greta got her belly shaved today so that the babies could easily get to the milk supply. I did it now so that there's time for the hair to grow a little and the "spiggots" won't be scratchy. She's generally not coorperative during grooming (where Tiny is totally, she loves it) but she was pretty good about this today.

Tomorrow I will work and then hopefully go get Tiny and bring her home so I won't have much to report on about Greta......I did give her extra food today. Gret's told me the babies were more hungry... :)

nothing really new yet

Other than she really can't get enough food. I keep trying to feel babies but I don't think what I'm feeling is pups. Ooooooh, this is going to be great. I will get Max's camera this weekend, I think then I will start taking pictures to show you how big she's getting. That's it for now.

We are counting down till the impending whelp

Greta is due with Dealer's puppies on May 8, 9, or 10th. We are getting very excited. She is getting big and is ravenous. There were 4 definitely seen on an ultrasound and at least 7 or 8 palpated. I will post pictures as soon as they are born and give details. I'll post pictures of Greta and Dealer before whelp.
