These babies: Sleepy, Porky, Fatty, Chunky, and Goofy (I'll come up with something better, I promise) will go to get their dewclaws removed and their tails docked today. Then they will start looking like little Brittany's and not little spotted rats. I'll post a picture later.
Greta is such a great mom (Greta the Great!) that I still haven't seen any evidence of them soiling the bedding in the box.
Ok, I gotta go back to kissing these little faces! I just caught the first hint of puppy breath this morning!!! :)

Why do tails get docked? Cosmo lost his, too, and I don't get it. Saw an Aussie once with his tail and it was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Aussie's do it but for Brittany's many are born docked or tailless. The Brittany standard calls for it and it all goes back to hunting. We remove dewclaws so they don't get ripped off in the field and tails too - also, it's a certain look, and they don't get gunk trapped in it (briars, etc). The Brittany was a poachers dog too. The poor people in France would take their little pointing dog to land they didn't own and hunt. The dog was small and couldn't be seen in high brush so these guys could sneak on land and hunt. With big dogs and long tails you might see them in the field from afar. Those of us having Brittanys are so sneaky! Then it just stuck and Brittany's are still the smallest pointing breed.
ReplyDeletehey! good info. thanx
